Onepuu

”It is a forest that has only been allowed to be, a primeval forest. That’s wonderful. – – – various woodpeckers and owls, but there were also big owls in the trees, untouched forest and fallen trees from old age”.

Vesa-Matti Loiri, talking about his love for Lapland’s forests

The nature of Finnish Lapland is immeasurably beautiful and of rare quality, and the more people know about it, the better.

Old-growth forests in the north sequester more carbon per hectare than an area of the same size in the Amazon rainforest. Finland’s forests belong to the northern coniferous forest zone, which stretches from Scandinavia to Siberia and North America. Northern forests are indeed the world’s largest ecosystem. This ecosystem plays a significant role in the fight against climate change.

Unfortunately, human indifference can be seen on a wide range of fronts: from the garbage thrown from the car window to the natural destruction left by huge industrial plants. One big problem is also clear-cutting. Industrial forestry favors open felling. Even if hundreds of new tree seedlings are planted after felling, and they are allowed to grow in peace, it will take decades before the growing trees bind and store as much carbon dioxide as the old forest. Unfortunately, a new economic forest is always cut down again before it has time to become a carbon sink that would tie up the lost amount of carbon created by clear-cutting.

Can we do something? Could the nature of Finnish Lapland be sold and bought for a good cause?

We at Onepuu believe that Lapland’s nature is the most beautiful and unique that the earth has to offer. We also know how important forests are in combating climate change. Trees and biomass are the largest carbon store after the oceans.

Onepuu is committed to protecting the diverse old forest and its carbon sinks. We use our time and money to take care of the forest and acquire new protected areas. We also try to help people understand and appreciate the uniqueness of nature, and through that help them make wiser and more sustainable choices in everyday life.

We also know that many people care, but don’t necessarily know how to show it. That’s why we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to own a piece of Lapland’s nature – even one tree.

This is how Onepuu was born – the world’s most cheerful company, whose purpose is to sell one tree to every nature lover. However, owning a tree is more than just one tree. It is an expression of love for nature and its diversity. Do you also want to own a piece of Lapland? Click on our online store and join the ever-growing group of tree owners!
